Welcome

About Pew Connections
We are delighted to have you join us for service. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. The Pew Connections, located at the end of the pew, is a crucial tool for us to keep track of our community's attendance and to receive your notes. We encourage you to use it.

About Holy Communion
As we celebrate Holy Communion, we do so in the confession of the Christian faith that rejoices with glad confidence because our Lord gives us not only bread and wine but also His very body and blood to forgive sins (Matthew 26:26-29) in this Meal. Furthermore, this act strengthens our union with Him and with one another. Our Lord invites to His table those who trust that the Lord's body and blood are given for the forgiveness of sins. We are warned in scripture that those who receive this Sacrament unworthily do so to their great harm (1 Corinthians 11:23-32), and because the Lord's Supper is a confession of the common faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, who are in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and yet desire to receive the Sacrament, are asked to first speak to an Elder or the Pastor. Those who wish to receive grape juice, not wine, can do so by receiving the white grape juice distributed in trays.

About the Service Online
We invite family, friends, and neighbors to view services via Facebook Live. To find us, go to internet and find https://www.facebook.com and search for St. Mark Lutheran Church and Preschool of Elko, Nevada. We are a congregation of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Together, we are forging faith and family for the frontier of life.

About Giving
We are motivated by the love of God to give. Nothing is more precious than the gift of faith, forgiveness, and salvation given by the Father through His Son, Jesus.  So, in response to God’s love, we give.  Giving is your opportunity to share the blessings of God with others. If you would like to give via Tithe.ly you can download the app from the Play Store or Apple Store or visit the church and preschool website stmarkelko.com.  We are St. Mark Lutheran Church and Preschool of Elko, Nevada.

About Fellowship
Join us for a time of food and friendship immediately following the service. Each week, family, friends, and neighbors can bring a dish to share. Whether it's a favorite family recipe or a simple treat, your contribution will help make this event a delightful culinary experience. It's an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow members, share a meal, and strengthen community ties. See you in the Fellowship Hall.

Pastor                  Almighty God, our Creator and Savior, we admit that we are sinful by nature and unclean, and that we have sinned against You in our thoughts, our words, and our actions. So we run to Your endless mercy, asking for Your grace because of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Congregation      Most merciful God, You gave Your only Son to die for us. Have mercy on us, and for His sake forgive all our sins. By Your Holy Spirit, help us to truly know You, understand Your will, and obey Your Word, so that by Your grace we may receive everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Pastor                      Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, has had mercy on us and has given His only Son to die for us. Because of Him, He forgives all our sins. To those who believe in His name, He gives the right to become children of God and promises them His Holy Spirit. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. Lord, make this true for all of us.

Pastor                       From all that dwell below the skies let the creator’s praise arise.

Congregation      Alleluia, alleluia!

Pastor                       Let the redeemer’s name be sung through every land, by every tongue.

Congregation       Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Pastor                        Eternal are Your mercies, Lord; eternal truths attend Your Word.

Congregation       Alleluia, alleluia!

Pastor                        Your praise shall sound from shore to shore till suns shall rise and set no more.

Congregation       Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

COLLECT OF THE DAY

Pastor                          Let us pray—Dear Jesus, before You went up into heaven, You promised to send the Holy Spirit to be with Your people on earth. We thank You for the faith the Spirit has given us, and for the gifts of joy, love, and peace. May the Holy Spirit make Your church stronger, bring us together, and help it grow, giving us everything we need so that Your holy name is shared with all nations on earth. Trusting in Your mercy, we pray. Amen

OLD TESTAMENT READING                                                                     Isaiah 25:6–9

6On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples
    a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine,
    of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined.
7And he will swallow up on this mountain
    the covering that is cast over all peoples,
    the veil that is spread over all nations.
    8He will swallow up death forever;
and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces,
    and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth,
    for the Lord has spoken.
9It will be said on that day,
    “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us.
    This is the Lord; we have waited for him;
    let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”

 Assistant                  This is the Word of the Lord.

Congregation       Thanks be to God.

EPISTLE                                                                                                    1 Peter 1:17–23

    17And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, 18knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 20He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for your sake, 21who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

    22Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;

 Assistant                  This is the Word of the Lord.

Congregation       Thanks be to God.

HOLY GOSPEL

Pastor                        The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the twenty-fourth chapter.

Congregation       Glory to You, O Lord.

     13That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, 14and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. 16But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad. 18Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” 19And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. 21But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. 22Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning, 23and when they did not find his body, they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.” 25And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” 27And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

    28So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther, 29but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them. 30When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. 31And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. 32They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” 33And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” 35Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.

 Pastor                    This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Congregation       Praise to You, O Christ.

APOSTLES CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried.

He descended into hell.

The third day He rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven

and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.

From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy Christian Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life + everlasting. Amen.

5       Restrain, O Lord, the human pride
That seeks to thrust Your truth aside
Or with some man-made thoughts or things
Would dim the words Your Spirit sings.

6       Stay with us, Lord, and keep us true;
Preserve our faith our whole life through—
Your Word alone our heart’s defense,
The Church’s glorious confidence.

Pastor                        Lord, remember us in your Kingdom and teach us to pray:

Congregation      Our Father who art in heaven,

     hallowed be Thy name,

     Thy kingdom come,

     Thy will be done on earth

     as it is in heaven;

     give us this day our daily bread;

     and forgive us our trespasses

     as we forgive those

     who trespass against us;

     and lead us not into temptation,

     but deliver us from evil.

     For Thine is the kingdom

     and the power and the glory

     forever and ever. Amen.

Pastor                   In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, at His command, and with His own words, we receive His testament.

Pastor                   Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My + Body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.

In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them saying: Drink of it all of you; this cup is the new testament in My + blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.

Pastor                        The peace of the Lord be with you

Congregation      Amen
